You, once the "ancient capital of six dynasties," have witnessed the rise and fall of successive dynasties; you have tugged at the hearts of thousands of poets, who wrote countless famous verses for you; you were once the "metropolis of ten dynasties" and a warrior in the Anti-Japanese War, showing both tenderness and strength. This time, we embarked on a learning journey with admiration, looking forward to our first encounter with you—Nanjing.
Under the reflection of colorful lights by the river and the bright moon, we took a boat to夜游 (night tour) the Qinhuai River, the mother river of Nanjing. Seeing the ancient-style pavilions and palaces along the riverbank transported me to the bustling heyday of the Six Dynasties; the sound of oars recounting your past made me think of Li Yu's poem: "The evening cool brings a clear sky with moonlit splendor; the shadows of jade towers and crystal palaces seem to emptyly reflect on the Qinhuai." I can only lament that the past is a sorrow! From carefully observing the falling red leaves on both sides of the Divine Road stone carvings to overlooking the mountain-encircled and water-surrounded scenery from the top of Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum, every brick, stone, and step along the way exudes the profound historical atmosphere of the Ming Dynasty, captivating visitors. Walking through Nanjing's pedestrian streets and ancient alleys, learning about the lives of Jinling people, one deeply experiences the simple local customs everywhere in Nanjing. Entering the Nanjing Anti-Japanese Aviation Martyrs Memorial Hall and learning about the martyrs' deeds of sacrificing themselves for righteousness made us realize the horror of war and the preciousness of peace. We all offered bouquets of small white chrysanthemums to pay tribute to the heroes who defended the motherland.
Nanjing! Your spirituality reveals a touch of stubbornness, and your shyness carries a hint of vicissitudes. You are so unforgettable!
